OBW’s core program is the traditional student exchange program, in which participants pursue their studies for a full academic year (or sometimes one semester) at a university in the partner region. In addition, OBW launched its Summer Research Program in 2007, which offers shorter-stay academic research opportunities to Ontario students in Science, Engineering, and Health Science disciplines. And summer 2010 saw the launch of a new OBW venture offering to Ontario students a one-month German Language and Culture program in Baden-Württemberg. Scholarship support is available to eligible participants in all three of these programs.
In 2011 the OBW Program expanded yet again to establish the Faculty Research Exchange. This new program offers support for faculty members to pursue research collaborations with colleagues at universities in the partner region.
Baden-Württemberg, one of 16 Länder (states), is located in southwest Germany. It shares borders with France to the west and with Switzerland to the south. Among many other things, it is renowned for the landscapes of the Black Forest and Swabian Alb, Mercedes-Benz, Lake Constance (in German, the “Bodensee”), great food and wines, friendly and welcoming people, and outstanding universities.
